Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is planning  to make the campus as an eco-tourism place to visit. This was announced by UTM’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang early this year. He said that the university will fully utilize its facilities to accommodate local and foreign visitors in a move to promote Campus Eco-Tourism in the UTM Skudai campus.

Well, it is possible since the campus possesses beautiful, fresh and green surrounding and being a stopover site for birds like flamingo and king fisher, just to name a few. So, visitors will be able to enjoy bird-watching around the campus area. In addition, the university has just release about 3000 fish fries into one of the campus lake. These fishes are expected to grow and support the fishing activities for student and visitors that is included in the eco-tourism package. Furthermore, there’s another lake with lots of fishes near the main entrance that are ready to be caught. All you need is a fishing rod, bait and patience.

Another facility in the campus is an equine centre. UTM Equine Centre provides several horses and trainers to assist visitors for horse riding experience. These trainers will also help riders to handle the horse well, learn some basic knowledge about horse family, and cleaning the stables of course.

Besides that, you can enjoy eating local fruits at the university 14 hectares fruit orchard. There are fruits like pulasan, rambutans, durians, guavas, mangoes and so much more. Apart from that, there are several vegetables plantations and farming activities near the orchard ranging from cows, goats, deers, the serama, spinach, long beans and others. Get the experience to feed the animals, pluck the fruits and vegetables yourself!

Not to worry about accommodation because 40 cosy rooms are provided in the university Scholar’s Inn. These rooms are different with the typical college rooms as they are fully-furnished, complete with living room and dining room. You may even choose the air-conditioned room if you request so.

There are numbers of eateries mushroomed all over the campus, selling good food of local and international recipes for you to try at very reasonable prices. Cabs are easy to get and don’t forget to buy UTM merchandise at the university souvenir shop for people at home.
