This is indeed going to be interesting!!! After Iskandar Malaysia mega project, Pagoh has been announced to be projected as the university city in Johor. This means that, on top of having Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai , Universiti Tun Hussion Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in Batu Pahat and Newcastle Medical Universiti in Nusajaya, Johor will have more and more universities. MUAR: The Pagoh educational hub area will be known as a University City and is expected to attract about 300,000 residents in the next 20 years.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the area, which would have at least four universities, would provide courses to some 30,000 students.

He said plans were underway to develop some 1,715ha of land between the Pagoh Umno division complex and the Panchor town into a combined learning, residential and commercial zone.

“The area will allocate some 164ha of the land into what we would call university valley and another 190ha for residential areas,” he said when opening the Pagoh Umno division delegates conference on Sunday.

Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, said he had held discussions with several university chancellors and the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin on the matter.

He said among the higher learning institutions which had agreed to set up campuses in Pagoh are Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Universiti Teknoligi Mara, Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Bandung Institute of Technologies.

He said the new growth area would also house a research and development institution, schools, a mosque, and other facilities for the public.

He said the Pagoh University City project was not meant only for local residents or Malays, but, it was created for all the races and for the nation.

“We expect the project to be fully completed in about 20 years and generate greater economic growth in and around Pagoh, he added.

Iskandar Malaysia Graduate Leadership, Assessment and Development program, also known as Imglad is collaboration among Johor Zoo, The Iskandar Malaysia Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Research Centre (Imrec) and Deloitte.

Several selected students will be assigned with different task that includes cage cleaning, food preparations for animals, food distribution and feeding, domestic care and any additional job that relates with the zoo facility.

Those selected are not restricted for UTM students only but they are coming from any other universities for instance Malacca Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and many more.

By this project, students can implement generic skills and allow themselves to develop leadership traits that are essential for their future. This Imglad program consists of 37 modules that are comprehensively try to help students developing personal characteristics that they can use when confronting public and while working.

Students can learn how to understand the animals, indirectly learn how to deal with other people, understands body language, be patience and improve their level of confidence.

Yeah, just think how confident you have to be when you need to be in the same cage with primates and weird animals anyway.

Actually, I was in the same place two years ago, when the zoo first trial to conduct such activities. My friends and I were representing Scout, gathered at the Zoo compound around 8am, spent about half a day doing voluntary works.The first trial was a success, I can say. I think, that is one of the reason they launch this Imglad Program.

My task was to prepare food for the animals. I rode on a small truck and checked the food portion before being distributed. Just paid-off to see those animals eat the food I prepare, happy and healthy enough for visitors to see.  Oh man, all animals of this planet should love me as I fed them and their families for that whole day!

Besides, I was given a chance to access some restricted places inside the zoo and that of course excludes the lion’s cage. .

Among attractions during the colourful and lively Pesta Konvo are street soccer contest, mini festival, entrepreneur workshop, and concert performance by local artists.

As usual, stalls will be opened and offered to business people with very reasonable price (rent). Students are also given opportunity to exhibit their business skills and provide them some enterprise exposure.

The stalls will be opened from 27th March and 70 units of dry stalls and 25 units of wet stalls (food, snack and beverages) will be opened for bidding. Price for dry stall is RM1,600 while for wet stall is RM2,200.
