One thing I notice when visiting other blogs, when they start discussing about Johor, particularly Johor Bahru, the bloggers will always touch on JB’s crime rate and safety issue. Stories of stolen vehicles, snatch theft and kidnapping would pop up. However, most of the stories starts with:
I heard …
My friend told me that …

Malaysia as a whole is much safer than many other countries. There’s no civil ware here, no drug lords running around freely and you can’t buy firearms in the open market. We don’t even have news about school kids being shot at school.

Crime can happen anywhere, even in Singapore. Lately I have been reading about gang wars there. For those who are working there, please be extra careful. It is always smart to be careful. Don’t go around late at night, if you have too then go in groups. Always lock your car by putting a visible steering lock on your car. Stay away from quite places etc.

For those who are not aware of the ukit Panjang Slashing & The 369 Gang, here’s more news:
Seven Youths vicious slashed by ‘369’ gang in Bukit Panjang.
The seven youths aged between 14 and 20, were frequently hacked by a group of parang men in Bukit Panjang on Monday night, and appeared to be gang-related attacks …

369 has spoken twice…what’s our Govt reply?
Things are getting out of hand, out of control. If our ministers in government, all MPs and the relevant people WHO ARE AUTHORISED TO USE ARMED FORCE AND ALL FORCE AT THEIR DISPOSAL to deal with these internal TERRORISTS sit back, to wait for the next, and the next, and the next 369 or other gang attack to take place….then matters will escalate …

Youths attacked by ’369′ gang members
Six students have been hospitalised after suffering injuries from yet another gang-related slashing incident. Seven youths brandishing chopping knives went on a slashing rampage at Bukit Panjang, around 10pm on Monday night …

Crack down on youth gangs
Two days after seven youths were repeatedly slashed by a group of parang-wielding men in Bukit Panjang, readers of The Straits Times are calling for more to be done to combat gang activities. Monday’s attacks came less than two weeks after Republic Polytechnic student Darren Ng was fatally stabbed at Downtown East in Pasir Ris, prompting many readers to voice their concerns …

7 youths slashed
Seven youths were repeatedly slashed by a group of parang-wielding men in Bukit Panjang on Monday night, in what appeared to be gang-related attacks. The victims, aged between 14 and 20, were set upon in two separate incidents – first when a 20-year-old assistant technician was slashed in the back and legs, and then when a group of 20 youths were surrounded …

Human rights group Suaram will be launching a campaign to urge the government to repeal the Emergency Ordinance (EO) and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The campaign, to be kickstated in Johor on Sept 25-26 , will see Suaram distributing leaflets, educating the public on how detainees are denied access to a fair trial in breach of human rights principles.

Johor was chosen as a starting point as most detainees under the preventive laws are currently held in the state. Those arrested under EO are currently detained in Simpang Renggam and Muar detention centres.

Singapore, Malaysia Agree To Land Swap
Singapore and Malaysia have agreed to a land swap to resolve a dispute that has lingered since the two countries split 45 years ago. Malaysia will give up a train station it owns near downtown Singapore in return for six land parcels in the city-state to be controlled by M-S Pte. Ltd, a joint venture company between Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Temasek Holdings Limited.

PUMPING and paying for petrol is faster and more pleasant in Johor Bahru (JB) than in Singapore, a reader concluded.

In Singapore, the overall process might take as long as 10 minutes if there’s a long queue.

“In Johor, the situation is different.

“I merely told the attendant how much petrol I wanted and he pumped it in without any further questions.

“When the filling was completed, I paid at the cashier’s counter which was located beside the pump.

“No time was wasted and filling in petrol was a very pleasant experience in Johor.

“I hope our petrol stations can adopt this speedy method of pumping and paying for petrol, where time is of the essence.”

Faster clearance to JB
Singaporeans who frequent Johor, especially for holidays, daily groceries and relaxation, can now apply for fast-track entry into Malaysia through the state. For RM30 a year, they can get a pass (a sticker embedded with an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip) that will be stuck in their passports. The pass holds the traveller’s information, and will be scanned at road entry points to the country before users are sent on their way. They do not have to fill in the white immigration cards or have their passports stamped, as the scan will capture their personal details. It’s now easier to travel johor. [Bernama]

Online system to apply for visas to Singapore
This will be a real time-saver for foreigners bound for Singapore. Foreigners leaving the state for Singapore will now find it easier to get their visas to the republic with the implementation of a web-based application system. The system, known as the Submission of Application for Visa Electronically or SAVE, has been operational since Jan 4 at the republic’s new consulate-general’s office here. The amazing legoland will be opened in Iskandar Malaysia and will soon be a significant attraction to both local and international fans. This is the first Legoland theme park in Asia and would boost up Malaysia into the world spot light.
