Going Into The Record Book
Even before a first medal is won at the 52nd edition of the Malaysian Schools Track and Field meet here next week, the organizers have scored an early success.

For the first time in the history of the meet, an elaborate publicity program has been drawn up to promote the four-day meet at the Larkin stadium here from May 18 to 21.

And that includes a fireworks display on the evening of the opening ceremony on May 18 which will be attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin. [Bernama]

Gang Preys On Bank Customers Busted
Police have busted an Indonesian gang which targeted people withdrawing large amounts of money from banks, with the arrest of two Indonesians.

The first suspect was nabbed after he was shot in the leg during a robbery outside a bank on Tuesday. His accomplice was nabbed within minutes near Holiday Plaza.

Sources said the suspects would usually split up with one gang member hanging around banks or teller machines trying to spot people making large withdrawals.[TheStar]

This year, Johor is trying to attract amateur and professional golfers from Asia pacific countries like Japan, South Korea, and China to come and play. It is a new project launched by the Johor Tourism Committee to boost up numbers of tourists to come to this state. So golfers, you are welcome to have a swing and rock on.

Other than the famous Royal Johor Country Club (RJCC), there are another 28 golf courses the state could offer. By now, Johor Tourism Committee has organized several programmes with local and foreign travel agents to promote golf and sports tourism among tourists.

According to Johor Tourism Committee chairman Hoo Seong Chang, the promoting is going very well so far, and those three countries are the most interested with the offer.

“The sports tourism industry is growing in the region. We feel the state should capitalise on its golf courses to rejuvenate the tourism industry this year,” he said.

In order to achieve the objective, the tourism committee is also planning to host an event, which is Johor Tourism Awards. This event will honour and acknowledge the golf players of this industry, local media, hotels and restaurants premises around Johor area.

Seven categories are announced with 16 awards will be given during the event. Johor Menteri Besar has already confirmed his attendance to the ceremony. The Johor Tourism Awards will be held at Persada Johor on 26 of January.

Those seven categories announced are for accommodation, restaurant and food outlet, tourism service, tourism product and programme, outstanding contributor, marketing and media, and best event organiser.

So by this project, I think public is expecting more tourists to come, hotels and food industry will generate more incomes, golfers will show their great swing skills, variety sports news for tv and newspaper, and all those cool offers. Definitely a whole-in-one!
