Saung Sunda Sawargi – Sundanese Restaurant – Johor Bahru
I’m not sure all of you have heard this Sundarian restaurant name Saung Sunda Sawargi or aka SSS. The name itself represents the food. One of my Indonesian friend said the name is Restaurant for Sundarian. I’ve been there twice. The first time with my friend who is also the one who knows the “makan-makan” place better because she really likes to “jalan-jalan cari makan”. Hmm… forget about her. Let’s talk about the SSS.
As you are having your food, you’ll be entertained with their music which makes us feels like we are in Indonesia. You can choose to have food at the table or sit at the ‘pangkin’. They also have a VIP room. Both time I’ve been there during lunch so, I ordered “nasi Timbel” which is the main menu here. There are Nasi timbel special (special timbel rice) and normal nasi timbel (I forgot the name in the menu). For me, as the food was satisfying, the price is not so expensive. This nasi timbel is just like nasi ayam penyek only that the rice was wrapped in banana leaf. My first impression was, I’m not going to be full cause it seems like very little but when i eat it, hmm….i cannot finish it. hee…maybe my stomach is not big enough…beside this nasi timbel, there is garame (fish dishes). Don’t ask me what it was as I never order it and I just read the menu and from what I heard it was delicious. There are also karedok, lamb satay, sayur asem, lotek, ikan peda and many more.
As for the drinks, we’ve ordered avocado juice (first phot shown above). Mmm…again, it was not frustrating. My husband said he is very satisfied with their service and food. The waiters are friendly and the owner (lucky for us to meet the owner during our lunch that day) also is friendly. As we went there quite early, there are only me and my husband and one Chinese and Malay family. They said, during Ramadhan, you have to book first before you go there. Else, you’ll have to wait or maybe you won’t be able to eat there as there’s no seat available.
We can choose to eat at Japanese style sitting table or ‘pangkin’
