JB To Host Inaugural Asia U-16 Basketball

Johor Bahru will host the inaugural Asia U-16 (Men’s) Basketball Championship scheduled from Nov 19-27. The best of the young Asian talents from 16 countries will gather at the Johor Bahru City Council Indoor stadium here for the nine-day championship.

Among the team that will be here for the tournament are China, the power-house of Asian basketball, South Koreans and Japanese, together with some Middle East countries like the Iranians and Qataris.

Ten countries have confirmed participation so far, including host Malaysia. They are China, Iran, Qatar, Taiwan, Kazakstan, Japan, India, Hong Kong and South Korea.

The top three teams from this championship will qualify for the World U-18 championship to be held in Germany in 2010.
