Is Johor Safe?

Seems like there are irresponsible people that are spreading rumors about Johor being unsafe. Or is it the crime rates are very bad that the Johor Police are organizing a special meeting in January with foreign investors to brief them of the safety aspects in the state? [NST]

Or is it due to recent events such as the bombing incident that made foreign investors think twice about Johor? The death of expectant mother Jamilah Selamat from Ayer Hitam in a snatch-theft incident in May could also be a factor?

What about the gagging and robbing of an OCPD in his own home? Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaakob is not only a VIP, but also a high ranking police officer. Three foreign men ransacked his home and fled with cash and valuables.

There’s also the double murder of a 39-year-old contractor, Saravanam and 43-year-old Viswa, who was a manager in a road building firm in Nusajaya. Both were shot dead by assailants while on their way to the construction site after withdrawing workers salary from a bank.

Today is the last day of the year. We have seen some improvements with plans to install more cctv in Johor Bahru to fight crime and also the deployment of Ninja Crime Fighters to roam the streets. We hope that in year 2010, crime rates in JB and Johor in general will go down. Better if there’s no crime at all.
