Danga City Mall Opening In November 2009
as reported by NST
THE biggest exhibition hall in the South, located at Danga City Mall (DCM) in Johor Baru, will be ready by this November.
Called the “Expo at DCM”, the RM5 million hall will spread over 2,973 sq m (slightly smaller than a football field) and can accommodate about 300 exhibition booths.
The pillar-free and air-conditioned hall is 7.6m high.
It has unlimited floor-load capacity, parking for 2,000 cars and wireless Internet coverage.
Danga City Mall Sdn Bhd managing director Gary Lee Seaton said his company is committed to provide exceptional service to show managers, exhibitors and visitors.
“In partnership with our contractors, we offer a full range of services to support major events,” he said.
Seaton said the Expo at DCM is the first outside Kuala Lumpur to offer the convenience of shopping and exhibition facilities at one location. The hall is joined to DCM through a covered walkway.
He also said the biggest selling point of the Expo at DCM is its strategic location where there is excellent frontage to traffic from the city centre and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine checkpoint.
“With more than one million motorists using the roads every month, exhibitors can enjoy fantastic visibility and advertising opportunities,” he said.
The expo hall is basically designed to host large-scale trade fairs, exhibitions, theme events, product launches and mega sale events.
It can also be customised to hold concerts, conferences and even banquets.
Work on the project began in June and will be completed in record time by November.
A book fair (biggest in the south) by Popular Book Company Sdn Bhd and a wellness products exhibition are some of the exciting events coming up when the centre opens.
“As a private facility, the Expo at DCM can be more flexible in its rates than other exhibition venues.
“From security to catering and everything in-between, the Expo at DCM is the most flexible in terms of pricing and house policies.
“You can pick and choose the amenities you want, which helps to make us one of the most affordable facilities you’ll find,” said Seaton.
Meanwhile, the second floor of DCM will be turned into Johor Baru’s biggest one-stop information technology (IT) centre called the Digital Valley.
Twenty-five shops covering 2,787 sq m of floor space at the IT centre are also scheduled to open for business in November.
“Digital Valley is the newest offering in our drive to make DCM the preferred shopping destination for locals and visitors in Johor Baru,” said Seaton.
The mall, which opened in March last year, is the biggest shopping complex in Johor Baru with 500 retail lots in seven floors.
The occupancy rate of the mall is nearly 90 per cent.
Digital Valley has already attracted some of the biggest names in the IT industry such as Lenovo Concept Store, Panasonic Digital Centre, Apple and Acer Computers.
A host of other major retailers dealing in desktops, laptops, mobile phones and other multi-media products and accessories will also be setting up shop in Digital Valley.
Seaton said another special feature of Digital Valley will be the opening of product service centres of established IT brands, making it a convenient destination for buyers to get personalised after-sales service.
He said Digital Valley will be unique compared to other malls in Johor Baru with IT shops because all of its products and services will be concentrated within one floor.
“We want to position the Digital Valley at DCM as the leading IT shopping mall in the south; a one-stop haven that offers the latest, most innovative and widest range of genuine and value-for-money IT and electronic gadgets.
“With credible and reliable tenants, shoppers at DCM can be assured of the best names at competitive prices in town without being ripped off or hassled,” he said.
