3D Movie Experience in Superstar Cinema, Johor Bahru

Last Saturday, I brought my family to watch Toy Story 3 the movie at Super Star Cinema in Ulu Tiram. Why Ulu Tiram? That is so far from the place we live in (Skudai). The reason is simply because Super Star Cinema is the only movie theater in Johor Bahru area that provide 3D movies. It was our first time coming to the new cinema.
The day before, we checked the website for the price for a 3D movie ticket in SuperStar Cinema but it was not shown inside their website. So, my wife called the cinema the night before and we learned that one ticket of 3D movie cost RM18. Unlike normal 2D movies that have early bird cheap ticket (normally at 11am everyday), there are no early bird ticket (cheap ticket) for 3D movie. However, if I’m not mistaken the cost for early ticket for 2D movies in Superstar cinema is RM7. However, please check again for yourself and don’t just take my word for it. You should check for the latest ticket price.
Superstar cinema is inside the new Today Supermarket or maybe we should call it “mall”. The mall is still empty and not many shops are opened yet. 3D Superstar Cinema is located at the top floor of the mall and it is very comfortable to get up there using the escalators.
At the counter, we lined up and after one person, we were entertain by a guy who treated us nice. As there are all together 5 in my family, so I have to pay RM18 x 5 = RM90 just to watch a 3D Toy Story movie. Normal 2D movie will cost maybe RM9 to RM10 depending on which cinema you go to. I’m not sure of the 2D movie price here. Somehow I noticed that the 3D movie Avatar was still showing. That’s interesting. However, I did not explore all 3D movies shown there.
Few minutes before the time, we bought a medium size pop corn and soft drink which cost only RM6.60. That’s enough for us as we had just eaten our heavy breakfast at the ground floor of Today Mall.
As the time comes, we presented the ticket and walked to movie theater #1. Before entering the theater, a movie attendant gave us a 3D spectacle each. It is OK for us, the adults but perhaps for my 5 and 6 years old daughter, the 3D spectacles maybe quite heavy. As we entered, we saw quite some people have seated. My rough estimation is that around 45-55% of the seats are filled. I think that is not bad at all.
As usual, before the movie started, some new movie thrillers were shown to us. Interestingly, all thrillers shown are meant for 3D movies. That’s cool. At least we know what are the coming 3D movies going to play within the coming 2-4 months. If you ask me now, I forgot already…hehe…
Overall, the 3D movie was a wonderful experience. However, I won’t bring my daughters anymore while there are still small. I think they cannot yet appreciate the 3D technology. I’ll just let them watch either DVD or normal 2D movies which are widely available in Johor Bahru.
